Singapore's investment powerhouse Temasek Holdings is set for a leadership transition, with former Senior Minister Teo Chee Hean joining as deputy chairman effective July 1 before assuming the chairman role on October 9. The announcement was jointly made by the Ministry of Finance and Temasek on Friday (June 6).
Expressing enthusiasm about his new role, Teo stated he aims to "build on the achievements of Temasek and chart a path for its continued success in the new global environment." The veteran leader emphasized that "as a key Singapore institution with a global investment footprint, Temasek understands that its long-term success requires both addressing today's risks and opportunities and anticipating tomorrow's trends."
A Distinguished Career Transition
The appointment marks Teo's first major corporate role following his retirement from politics after May's General Election. With an illustrious public service career spanning decades, Teo previously served as Deputy Prime Minister (2009) and Coordinating Minister for National Security (2011) before becoming Senior Minister in 2019.
Temasek CEO Dilhan Pillay Sandrasegara welcomed the incoming chairman: "I'm pleased to welcome Mr. Teo Chee Hean as our fifth chairman...His remarkable public service career across multiple domains speaks for itself," noting that the organization stands to benefit significantly from Teo's strategic perspectives and wealth of experience.
Outgoing Chairman Leaves Strong Legacy
The leadership change will see Lim Boon Heng conclude his impactful 12-year tenure as chairman on October 9. Under Lim's stewardship since taking office in 2014, Temasek has seen remarkable growth - its net portfolio value surged from $223 billion to $389 billion by fiscal year end.
"I thank Mr Lim for his dedicated service at Temasak. Under his stewardship, Temsaek has expanded its global presence, strengthened its governance processes,and established itself as a leader in sustainable development," said Prime Minister Lawrence Wong who also serves as Finance Minister.
Board Renewal Continues
As part of ongoing board renewal,Temasak announced several other transitions: Deputy Chairman Cheng Wai Keung will retire after14 years of service(June30), Director Stephen Lee concludes eight years(June30), And Bobby Chin completes11 years(July31).
