As students across the UAE return to their classrooms, the impact of online schooling remains significant — and for good reason.
Schools are now viewing digital learning not as a temporary solution but as a valuable complement that continues to influence lesson delivery, assignment management, and student engagement alongside traditional face-to-face learning.
From interactive platforms and recorded lessons to AI-powered tools, many practices adopted during the pandemic and global conflicts are now integral to daily teaching.

Educators in the UAE have emphasized that this blended approach fosters more flexible and personalized learning environments, while also ensuring that the return to physical classrooms reinstates crucial aspects like social interaction and hands-on experiences.
Consequently, schools are carefully striving to maintain a healthy balance.
Digital Tools Establish Their Place in Everyday Teaching
Pretty Khosla, principal of Apple International Community School (AICS), noted that online and in-person learning now coexist rather than compete with each other.
"In accordance with the reopening protocols set by the Ministry of Education and KHDA, both in-person and online learning mutually coexist as equally valid educational modes in our school, and we have embraced this wholeheartedly. We have restructured our timetables so that online and onsite teaching occur concurrently in different classrooms, each with a dedicated teacher focused solely on that group. Quality learning requires undivided attention, whether delivered through a screen or in person," she explained.
"At the same time, the wellbeing of our students and staff is our top priority, guiding every decision we make in creating safe, balanced, and engaging learning environments," she continued.
Emphasizing the enduring habits formed during the pandemic, she added, “The digital practices our students developed, such as collaborative tools, self-paced resources, and recorded lessons, have become woven into the fabric of our daily teaching and learning.”
On balancing digital and traditional methodologies, Khosla stated that the transition has been smooth rather than disruptive. “I don’t view this as a shift; we have long implemented BYOD and flipped learning approaches, so our students and teachers were already accustomed to balancing digital tools with hands-on, collaborative learning well before the pandemic. This has been a natural evolution rather than a transition.”
A student in our classroom might research a concept on their own device one moment and then move to the lab to test it the next; that fluidity has always been part of our culture.
Similarly, Bhanu Sharma, principal of Woodlem Park Ajman, stated that schools are building on the lessons learned during remote learning. “As students return to classrooms across the UAE, we are enhancing what we’ve learned. The most effective elements of online schooling, such as digital platforms for assignments, recorded lessons, and real-time feedback tools, were always integral to our daily teaching, and now we have also seen the introduction of AI avatars and tools that assist both students and teachers.”
Balancing Screen Time with In-Person Engagement
Sharma added that classrooms have become more dynamic, with technology enhancing rather than replacing traditional methods. “We are witnessing a true shift toward blended learning, where technology enhances — not replaces — the classroom experience. Teachers are thoughtfully integrating digital resources with face-to-face interaction, ensuring lessons are more engaging, flexible, and personalized.”
Principals also highlighted the need to restore balance. “Many of the most effective elements of online learning have been carefully integrated into our daily practices. The continued use of platforms like Google Classroom for sharing resources, assignments, and feedback remains central, alongside interactive tools that promote collaboration and independent inquiry,” stated Sheela Menon, principal of Ambassador School, Dubai.
"We are mindful of maintaining a healthy balance, ensuring that technology enhances learning without leading to excessive screen time. Therefore, teachers are blending the strengths of face-to-face instruction, such as direct engagement, discussion, and hands-on experiences, with the efficiency and accessibility of digital tools,” Menon added.
