According to Bloomberg, Apple has partnered with five factories across the country to make this possible, with two facilities newly operational. It marks Apple’s strongest commitment yet to Indian manufacturing and signals a long-term shift in its global supply chain.
India steps into the spotlight
At the center of this transformation are Tata Group’s advanced plant in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, and Foxconn’s expanded facility near Bengaluru Airport. Both are playing a critical role in scaling up iPhone production. Industry insiders suggest Tata could soon manage nearly half of all iPhones built in India within just two years.
For Apple, the strategy goes beyond symbolism. It’s about reducing reliance on China, managing tariff uncertainties from the U.S., and securing a resilient production base for the future.
Made in India, shipped to the world
The ripple effect is already global. Canalys data shows that by June 2026, 78% of iPhones exported from India were headed to the U.S.—a sharp jump from 53% just a year earlier.
Between April and July alone, India shipped $7.5 billion worth of iPhones, nearly half the total from the entire previous fiscal year ($17 billion). Apple CEO Tim Cook confirmed during an earnings call that soon, the majority of iPhones sold in the U.S. will carry a “Made in India” tag.
