Dubai is making significant strides in renewable energy as the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park reaches an impressive total capacity of 3,860 megawatts (MW). This world-class facility combines cutting-edge photovoltaic (PV) solar panels with concentrated solar power (CSP) technology to deliver clean electricity at scale.
The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has recently boosted the park's output by adding 800MW from its sixth phase earlier this year. This expansion brings clean energy's contribution to approximately 21.5% of DEWA's total production capacity - a major milestone in the emirate's sustainability journey.
"The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park stands at the heart of our ambitious Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050," emphasized Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA. "This flagship project will play a pivotal role in achieving our goal of sourcing all energy from clean sources by mid-century. By doubling its current capacity to reach an impressive planned output of over seven gigawatts by decade's end."
The solar park's remarkable evolution began with its modest first phase in October 2013 - a 13MW PV installation that marked Dubai's first major foray into utility-scale solar power. The project gained momentum with subsequent phases: a groundbreaking 200MW second phase launched in March 2017 became the region's first independent power producer (IPP) model solar initiative.
