Authorities across the United Arab Emirates have intensified their fight against organized begging during the holy month of Ramadan, with police forces arresting more than 400 individuals engaged in fraudulent solicitation schemes.
In Abu Dhabi alone, law enforcement officials detained 237 suspects as part of special anti-begging operations. Major Muslim Mohammed Al-Amiri, Deputy Director of the Criminal Security Sector, revealed that modern beggars employ sophisticated emotional manipulation tactics to exploit residents' generosity.
"These individuals craft elaborate sob stories designed to trigger sympathy," Al-Amiri explained. "Our teams are working around the clock to identify and apprehend these offenders regardless of their deception methods."

The senior police official emphasized that public cooperation remains crucial in eliminating street begging. "When compassionate citizens give money directly to panhandlers, they're often funding criminal networks rather than helping those in genuine need," he cautioned.
Officials recommend donating through registered charitable organizations and government-approved platforms where contributions can be properly tracked and distributed to verified beneficiaries. This approach ensures donations actually support vulnerable community members while denying funding to professional begging rings.
Dubai Police reported apprehending 127 beggars during Ramadan's first two weeks, confiscating over Dh50,000 in illicit proceeds. Sharjah authorities arrested 107 individuals (including 87 men and 20 women) with similar amounts seized. Ras Al Khaimah documented 51 begging-related arrests since the holy month began. Earlier this year, multiple emirates launched public awareness campaigns warning residents about sophisticated panhandling scams that typically surge during Ramadan.
