In Dubai—a city synonymous with shimmering skyscrapers and flawless facades—17-year-old artist Samaira creates sculptures that celebrate the power of imperfection. While others chase perfection, she molds the raw, unspoken emotions that define our humanity.
"People underestimate how deeply teenagers feel," says Samaira, her voice steady with conviction. "We're always watching, always absorbing what isn't said aloud."
Her medium? Clay. Her message? The complex emotional landscape we often hide beneath polished surfaces. Grief, detachment, self-doubt—these aren't just concepts in her work; they're sculpted into tangible forms that demand to be felt rather than simply seen.
"Clay has its own will," she explains. "It resists control. That tension between intention and accident—that's where the truth emerges."
Sculpting the Unspoken
Growing up surrounded by Dubai's gleaming architecture taught Samaira an unexpected lesson: perfection can feel sterile. Her sculptures deliberately reject glossy finishes in favor of cracked textures and visible fingerprints—each mark a testament to human vulnerability.
"Here, we don't always have spaces for messy emotions," she reflects. "My art creates those spaces."
Her creative process begins with rough sketches before hours of meticulous shaping. Unlike traditional notions of beauty, her pieces embrace asymmetry and roughness as essential elements of expression.
A recent piece transformed unexpectedly when its symbolic horns broke during sculpting. Rather than discard it, Samaira amplified the resulting fissure running through the head-like form.
"The crack became more powerful than my original idea," she recalls . "It showed how internal struggles leave visible wounds." Texture plays starring role across her portfolio smooth surfaces represent emotional walls while rough patches signal breaking points . Color rarely appears - naked clay speaks plainly enough .
